taking a step closer to sustainable

For San Francisco to be more sustainable, we need to grow more of our own food. To plant more fruit trees, we need to show the city we can manage the harvest.

About Us

SF Glean is a entirely volunteer project that harvests fruit and nut trees and donates the harvest to various food banks, pantries, and food programs in our San Francisco communities.

We are not a business, we never sell our harvest.

By ensuring that our local trees are all harvested, not only do we feed ourselves with hyper-local foods, we also aid the effort toward getting more fruit and nut trees planted in the city.

If we want more fruit and nut trees, we must be responsible for their harvest. Together, we are the people who can do this work!

Here's how it works:
  1. we find a tree, either on our own or we are contacted by the tree's owner.
  2. We watch that tree, and when the time is right, we harvest the fruit or nuts.
  3. Working with other nonprofits, we get the food to places that feed hungry people.
Getting Involved

If you would like to get involved and help us out, there's plenty of room for everyone. We need people to find trees, pick trees, and work with the communities. The first thing to do is join our Google Group. This is how we stay in touch and organize the work.
